Simewood Product Sdn. Bhd.’s space-saving collections

When the husband and wife, Ong Chong Kiong and Chiam Tock Boon, started Simewood Product Sdn. Bhd. in 1989 as a sub-contractor by producing components for furniture manufacturers in Muar, Johor, it did not occur to them then that their company would become a major producer and exporter of furniture.

Thirty years on, Simewood Product’s practical and space-saving wooden household furniture products are well-accepted in numerous markets in various parts of the world. Among their collections are foldable mobile tables, bar tables with stools, coffee tables, console tables, nesting tables, kitchen trolleys and stools with the ideas of M.I.C. (M – Modern Lifestyle, I – Innovative, C – Creative).

Recalls Ong: “We started with five workers and it took us about five years before we ventured into producing occasional household furniture. The period 1995 to 1999 was a bullish time for the Malaysian furniture industry and we decided to take advantage of the market opportunities by producing our own furniture and look for export markets.” “Our first breakthrough in the export business came in 1999 when we had our first success in exported our products. That was to Ireland. Boosted and encouraged by our first export success, we have since then established good business relationships with customers in 25 other countries.”

To cater to increasing orders, Simewood Product moved to a larger factory in Parit Jamil in 2011, which is also in Muar. Made mainly of Rubberwood & MDF, Simewood Product’s furniture pieces are designed in modern styles and crafted with contemporary features to fit into any home or office.
